Maintain Optimum Car Battery Performance

Of the most important parts in a car is it's battery, without such device it is virtually impossible to start the engine. Starting the engine is not the only function it serves, it also provides extra power for ignition, lighting, and it becomes active if the combined demand for power surpasses the one provided by the charging system so without it your car is obviously going nowhere. Since this part is critical for any car to work, learning how to improve its life and performance is information worth acquiring.

Depending on the type of car you use the battery life fluctuates, some will last 4-5 years, others will go above that, but every once in a while we hear about batteries lasting only a couple of years. According to today's battery prices which range between USD $80 - $250+ constant replacement can surely turn out to be an annoying expense.

I was sooo not expecting a rental like this, but it's what they gave me while my car's front bumper is being reborn. It's a jeep commander and I can fit about 37 people in it. (well, not really...)

In order to improve your car's battery life you can follow these steps:

- If you have purchased a fairly new car, the battery it comes with is pretty generic (for most cars), replacing or upgrading it can keep you worry free for quite some time.

- If your new battery dies after a couple of years it is important to find the reason why it died so fast instead of buying a bigger battery, in some cases the insulation around the battery is not good enough and it tends to discharge its power faster so replacing it with a bigger one will pretty much yield the same results in term of its life. Make sure to have good insulation which will keep the battery's electrolytes at the right temperature. If temperature is an issue then you could have the battery installed in your car's trunk which will keep it properly isolated from temperature changes and additional equipment which can affect its life.

- Keeping your car's lights always functional is very important but there are those who like to add extra accessories to the car which drain its power, the same goes for people who love 1000 watt speakers and powerful stereo amplifiers. Such accessories can drain a battery extremely fast so it is highly recommended to install a separate power supply for such accessories. Also use the right battery charger when the time comes.

- Keep track of the average amount of miles driven each day as well as the average time spent stuck in traffic jams if you live in a crowded area, this will help technicians determine the best course of action when it comes to insulation and location.

Follow these basic guidelines and you will increase your battery life and decrease unnecessary expenses.

Yea! It's Repaired and CLEAN by Old Shoe Woman.
My car is having some repairs. Julie's car needed some repairs. She borrowed a car. It broke down. Then her car was repaired. I followed Jim and Julie to go pick up her car. She and I stopped by Starbucks to attempt to send photos by email from my new camera using the T-Mobile Shotspot at Starbucks. Then I followed Jim to pick up the car that she'd borrowed after it was repaired. I took advantage of the drive and snapped photos around Valdosta, Georgia, USA. It was a beautiful, sunny December day in south Georgia--76 degrees Fahrenheit. Later, Jim and I drove to Valdosta Lincoln Mercury to pick up my car after it had been repaired. Yea! We're done after playing MUSICAL CARS for 2 days. Now my baby is ready for Carl and Julie to drive to Tennessee next week to meet up in Pigeon Forge and then go to Asheville to Biltmore Estates and see it all decked out for Christmas. I love vacations.

Top 10 Tips To Help You Save Gas

Regardless of the price of gas, a little bit of extra money for doing very little extra work is always appreciated. Here are my ten top tips on how to save gas:

1. Be Gentle!

There is probably no easier way to reduce your gas usage than just by being gentle on the pedals. If you accelerate and decelerate gently your truck uses less gas. By being gentle you will also add to the lifespan of your pedals; and you don't want a maintenance bill for breaking your pedals if you're trying to save money.

2. Care For Your Vehicle!

On the topic of maintenance; keep your vehicle well maintained. You would never push yourself to your limits when you weren't in good enough condition so don't make your vehicle do that either.

3. Don't Turn Left!

For US readers this is a great idea. Try to avoid turning left because it is quicker to turn right and you will travel less distance. Less distance and less waiting to turn onto the road equals better gas optimization and less money spent.

4. Combine Needless Journeys!

Why do two trips when you can do one? If you can do fewer journeys you should. It's all about saving the gas and you're obviously going to save more gas by doing less journeys..

5. Plan Your Route In Advance!

It may take those extra few minutes before you set off but it could save you a few dollars when you would otherwise be stopped, engine running, wondering where to go next. If you know where you are going there will be less stoppages and more gas!

6. Use The Correct Type Of Gas!

You would likely drink an energy drink, water or juice before doing some sort of sport. Look after your vehicle in the same way. By giving it the same fuel as recommended in the manufacturer's handbook, you are giving your vehicle the healthy alternative and priming it for a longer, more efficient life

7. Turn Your Engine Off!

If you get stuck in traffic for twenty minutes don't sit there and complain with the engine running. You'll be wasting gas. Turn your engine off then sit there and complain away!

8. Walk!

Walking is yet another very simple trick but one that is usually forgotten. Don't make short journeys when you could walk. Save the gas, money and help your health.

9. Reduce Drag!

Take any unneeded items out of your truck and leave them at home. It will reduce your vehicle's mass therefore decreasing drag and allowing you the better air resistance, that will save you fuel.

10. Switch To LPG!

Switch to LPG. LPG stands for liquid petroleum gas and is a cheaper alternative to other fuels as it lasts longer. It will cost a little to upgrade but it will be worth it in the long run.

After doing all this you can sleep safe in the knowledge you have saved money, your health and done your little bit to help the environment by saving that extra bit of gas.
